Most Dover addresses are in Dover Township, not the borough. The trash rules differ; our phone number doesn’t.

There are two Dovers on the map. Dover Borough is a small town of under 2,000 people, and Dover Township wraps all the way around it. The township also makes up about 65 percent of the land in the 17315 ZIP, so most people who write Dover, PA on an envelope live in the township.[1][2]

Which side of the line you’re on decides your trash day, your bulk-item rules and your permit office. For junk removal in Dover, PA, about 11 miles straight-line from our base, it’s the same William either way: he takes the call, quotes the price before anything moves, and works the job.[3]

Apartments in the borough, garages and decks in the township

The borough is the denser, more rented of the two. About 1 in 3 households rent, nearly 16 percent of homes are in buildings with five or more units, and the median home was built in 1974. That means move-outs, and furniture going down apartment stairs.[1]

The township, with about 23,000 residents, is mostly owners in newer houses. The median home dates to 1988, around 63 percent are single-family detached, and roughly 1 in 4 residents is 65 or older. Think backyard sheds, decks with a hot tub on them, and downsizing.[2]

Trash, bulk items and brush: borough rules versus township rules

Both municipalities use a contracted hauler, but they run it differently. Borough residents pay for refuse on the borough’s quarterly utility bill, with collection on Mondays. Township residents pay the hauler directly under a contract that runs from July 2025 through June 2030.[4][5][6]

Both sides share the big limits: one bulk item per collection day, nothing two people can’t lift, Freon appliances scheduled with the hauler first, and no construction debris at the curb. Electronics are out too, and both send residents to the York County Solid Waste Authority for them.[4][7][5][6][8][9]

  • Dover Borough, as of 2026: one large item a week on Monday, at the curb by 7:00 AM with trash and recycling. The hauler offers no yard waste or Christmas tree pickup, and the borough asks residents to keep yard debris out of the street and storm drains clear.[4][7][5][10]
  • Dover Township, as of 2026: one bulk item per collection day, out by 6:00 AM, and extra trash bags don’t count as the bulk item.[8]
  • Township yard waste goes in brown paper bags or bundles tied with biodegradable twine, no longer than 5 feet and no heavier than 30 pounds. Plastic bags, grass clippings, stumps, dirt and stone aren’t collected.[6][9]
  • The township runs its own fall leaf collection, for leaves only, with no sticks, logs, stones or trash mixed in.[6][9]

Weigelstown is a census-designated place inside Dover Township, per Wikipedia’s article on the township; Census boundary data shows the township completely surrounding the borough.[14][2]

What we haul and tear down in Dover

Shed teardowns and Dover Township’s permit thresholds

Dover Township lays its rules out plainly. Its zoning ordinance (Chapter 27, Section 1101) requires a permit from the Zoning Officer to erect, alter, move or demolish any structure. Sheds and outbuildings from 100 to 999 square feet need a zoning permit; at 1,000 square feet and up, it’s a building permit. A demolition permit also requires a site plan that shows which structures are coming down.[11]

Get the permit squared away with Planning and Development, and we’ll handle the hard part. We take the shed apart, empty whatever’s still inside, load the roofing, siding and framing, and leave the spot clean. Don’t plan on curbside for any of it, since the township’s hauler takes no construction debris.[8]

Getting a dead hot tub off a Dover deck

A hot tub is never going out as a bulk item in Dover. Both the borough and the township refuse anything two people can’t lift into the truck. Drain it if you can; if not, we bring a pump. Then we cut it into sections where the access is tight and haul out every piece, cover and steps included. It does have to be shut off at the breaker before we get there. We don’t touch live electrical.[7][8]

If the deck under it is coming out too, check the permit side first. In the township, decks 30 inches or less off the ground fall under zoning permits and taller decks under building permits. The borough’s Spring 2026 newsletter asks residents to call the office about permits for decks, fences and pools before starting. We can leave the deck standing or quote it separately.[11][12]

Whole-house cleanouts when a Dover Township home changes hands

With about a quarter of township residents 65 or older, a lot of Dover houses will be emptied by family in the next few years. The curb won’t take the old TV or computer: haulers can’t collect electronics here, and Pennsylvania has banned covered devices from household trash since 2013. A chest freezer may need a special pickup, so the township says to contact the hauler before setting one out.[2][6][13]

We start with a walkthrough of every room so you can flag what stays. Usable furniture and household goods go to donation drop-offs, and the rest goes out in as many truck loads as it takes. The house is left broom-clean, and we’ll work with your realtor, estate attorney or property manager. Most houses take a full day; a heavy one can run two.

Furniture out of Dover Borough apartments and rentals

In the borough, where about a third of households rent, furniture tends to move on lease dates. The curb gives you one large item each Monday, and only if two people can get it into the truck. A sleeper sofa, a solid-wood dresser or a sectional in three pieces won’t make it in one week.[1][4][7]

Our two-person crew brings moving equipment and carries it out from wherever it sits, upstairs bedroom or basement rec room. If a piece is still in good shape, it goes to a donation drop-off instead of the transfer station.
