Junk Removal in Ephrata, PA
Ephrata's bulk pickup stops at 50 pounds an item. Past that, the borough itself says to call a private hauler.
Junk removal in Ephrata, PA has a clear starting line, and the borough drew it. Oversized items heavier than 50 pounds don't go out with Borough trash, and residents are told to contact a private hauler. That's the phone call we answer.[1]
The Junk Lord is owned and operated by William, who grew up in York County and still works every job himself. He picks up when you call, walks through what's going, quotes it and loads it alongside the crew. Ephrata is about 27 miles from our York base in a straight line, and we cover Ephrata Borough and Ephrata Township both.[2]

Borough houses and township houses fill up differently
Ephrata Borough has about 6,100 housing units with a median build year of 1971. Roughly 42 percent were built before 1960, and about 44 percent of households rent, so move-outs and landlord turnovers are a regular source of left-behind furniture.[3]
Ephrata Township is newer and roomier: its median home was built in 1997, and more than half its homes are single-family detached. More garage space and more sheds means stuff piles up in different places than it does in town.[4]
Both sides skew a bit older. Eighteen percent of borough residents and about 20 percent of township residents are 65 or over, and downsizing or settling an estate is often what turns a full house into a job.[3][4]
Ephrata Borough's trash rules, as of 2026
Since October 1, 2024, the borough has used a single contracted hauler. Homes with four or fewer residential units are automatically Borough customers and can't opt out, and other haulers may no longer collect in the borough.[5][6]
Weekly trash is capped at four 32-gallon bags or cans, with extra service tags sold at the Business Office. Big pieces need an oversized item tag and have to come in at 50 pounds or less and 8 feet or shorter.[5][1]
- Tagged bulk can include furniture, mattresses and box springs, push lawnmowers, grills, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, interior doors and rolled carpet up to 48 inches.[1]
- Not taken as bulk at all: TVs and computers, pianos and organs, riding mowers, boats and kayaks, and vehicle parts.[1]
- Mattresses or box springs with bedbugs or heavy staining must be wrapped, glass must be taped, and anything over 8 feet has to be broken down and bundled.[1]
- Appliances over 50 pounds and tires are picked up twice a year with a tag on each. Both 2026 weeks, May 4 and September 14, have already passed.[7][8]
- In 2026, yard waste runs March 30 through October 8 in borough-provided paper bags with a sticker on each bag or bundle. Bagged leaves get four fall pickup dates between mid-October and early December.[9][10]

What we haul and tear down in Ephrata
Hoarding cleanup in Ephrata
A hoarding cleanup goes at the pace of the person whose home it is. We walk through first and talk about what has to be found and kept: paperwork, photos, anything you name. Then we work room by room, sorting what's saved, what's donated and what's hauled. No judgment, and what we see in your home stays confidential.
Ephrata's curbside setup isn't built for this. Four bags a week and a 50-pound limit on tagged pieces won't clear a house that has been filling up for years.[5][1]
A hoard often holds old paint, pool and lawn chemicals, or small propane cylinders. Those stay off our truck. Lancaster County residents can take them to LCSWMA's household hazardous waste facility on Harrisburg Pike in Lancaster, free, Monday through Friday. The facility doesn't accept loads from businesses, so it's a trip for the household to make.[11]
Clearing a whole Ephrata house
Emptying a house in the borough hits two walls quickly. Anything over 50 pounds is off the curb list, and with both 2026 appliance weeks gone, a dead washer or chest freezer would otherwise sit until the borough's next collection. Pianos and organs aren't taken as bulk at all.[1][7]
A whole-house job with us opens with a walkthrough, and whatever you mark to keep stays in the house. Usable furniture heads to donation drop-offs. Everything else gets loaded and hauled, as many truckloads as the house needs, and the rooms are left broom-clean. Most full houses are a one-day job; a heavy one can take two. We'll work directly with the realtor, the estate attorney or the family member running things from a distance.
