Middletown's weekly trash service includes one bulk item at the curb. That's plenty for a broken chair. Junk removal in Middletown, PA picks up from there: the couch two people can't lift, a basement in a house built before 1960, the apartment that has to be empty by the first of the month.[1][2][3]

We're The Junk Lord, and we're based in York, about 13 miles from Middletown in a straight line. It's William's business and William's name on the work; he takes the call, sets the price and is there when the truck pulls up.[4]

A renter-heavy borough with old bones

More than half of Middletown's households rent: 57.4 percent, by the census count. Only about a third of homes are single-family detached, and nearly as many sit in buildings with five or more units.[3]

That shapes the work. Leases turn over and leave furniture behind, landlords need units cleared between tenants, and a lot of what comes out has to come down a shared stairwell first.

The houses are old, too. About 27 percent were built before 1940 and just over half before 1960, with a median build year of 1958. Old basements and attic crawlspaces have had a long time to collect things.[3]

Middletown's curbside rules and the county drop-off

The borough contracts out residential trash hauling and bills it on the monthly utility bill. Weekly service covers trash, unlimited recycling and one bulk item, set at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on collection day.[1][5][2]

  • A bulk item too heavy for two people to lift into the truck isn't accepted.[2]
  • Air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers containing freon have to be scheduled separately with the borough's contracted hauler.[2]
  • Construction debris isn't collected curbside.[2]
  • Rechargeable batteries and pressurized tanks like propane cylinders should never go in the trash or recycling.[2]
  • The borough points residents to the Dauphin County Recycling Center at 1625 S. Cameron Street in Harrisburg, open weekdays. As of its posted list, TVs, computers and appliances without refrigerant are recycled there free, and refrigerant appliances carry a fee.[1][6][7]

What we haul and tear down in Middletown

Yard waste removal in Middletown

Middletown no longer picks up woody waste at the curb; the borough dropped it because of budget constraints. Residents can bring branches, brush, shrubbery and vines to the borough's Woody Waste Facility with a resident card from Borough Hall, but the card is good for a limited number of uses a year, and commercial or contractor use isn't allowed. Grass clippings aren't accepted there. Leaves are the one thing still collected curbside, by section, on the borough's 2026 leaf map.[8][9]

So when a hedge comes out, a storm drops limbs in the yard, or the back fence line disappears under brush, it's either a lot of trips in your own car or one visit from us. We load it, haul it and sweep up. One line we hold: William isn't an arborist, and we don't fell standing trees. Limbs and trees already on the ground, yes. Anything still standing, plus trimming and stump grinding, goes to a certified arborist.
