Hot tub removal in Lancaster, PA is a job the city's curbside system was never meant to handle. We drain the tub, cut it into sections when the way out is tight, and haul every piece: shell, cabinet, cover, steps and any framing around it. Then we clean up the spot where it sat. One thing on your end: shut the power off at the breaker before we get there. Live wiring and gas lines aren't our trade, so those need to be handled first.

Why Lancaster's curbside pickup won't take a spa

The City of Lancaster does take one oversized item per household each week, but with a weight ceiling: nothing heavier than two people can lift and load into the trash truck. An empty hot tub shell blows past that before you even count the cover and the wooden skirt.[1]

Cutting it up yourself and feeding it to the curb doesn't really work either. Weekly trash is capped at six 32-gallon bags or cans of no more than 30 pounds each, and the week you put out an oversized item that cap drops to four. A sawed-up tub would eat a lot of trash days and a lot of blades.[1][2]

Getting a tub out of a city yard

Only about 12 percent of the city's homes are single-family detached. A Lancaster hot tub is more likely to be sitting on a small deck or patio behind an attached home, reached through a gate, a narrow side passage or an alley, or only through the house.[3]

That's the situation we're set up for. We cut the tub into sections that fit the path out, carry them to the truck and leave the pad or deck clean. If you want the deck or pad gone too, we quote that separately.

Taking it to LCSWMA yourself

Bulky items that can't go curbside can be taken to Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority facilities, where disposal rates apply. Not every waste type can be processed at every facility, so check before you load up.[4][5]

  • Open loads must be tarped and secured, and high-visibility clothing is required on the tipping area.[5]
  • Heavy vehicles and trailers (a 17,000-pound vehicle or a 10,000-pound trailer) have to show registration.[6][5]
  • Frey Farm Landfill takes credit or debit cards only, no cash or checks.[6]
