We Load Everything
Local & Owner-Operated
Owner-operated. William is personally on every job from start to finish.

Every deck gets to the point where the boards are soft, the railing moves when you lean on it, and somebody's foot goes through a step. That's when it's time for deck removal, not another coat of stain. We tear out the decking, rails, stairs, joists and beams and haul all of it away. Whether you're putting up a new deck, pouring a patio, or planting grass, you start with a clean spot. The price is set before we pick up a pry bar.

How the job goes

  1. Step 1
    Photos from the yard

Text a few shots of the deck from the side and from underneath. Underneath tells us more than you'd think: how many posts, how tall, what the footings look like.

  2. Step 2
    Price before the pry bar

We confirm the price before anything comes apart.

  3. Step 3
    Top down, then out

Rails and boards come off first, then joists and beams, then posts. Everything goes straight onto the truck.

  4. Step 4
    Clean footprint

We rake out the nails and splinters and sweep where the deck met the house.

Before we show up

Clear the furniture, grills and planters off the deck if they're staying. If they're going, leave them; we'll haul them with the boards. Disconnect any outdoor lights or outlets wired into the deck and have the power shut off to them.

If there's a hot tub sitting on the deck, it has to come off first. Our hot tub removal page covers that, and we can do both on the same visit.

Where the deck meets the house

Most attached decks hang off a ledger board bolted to the house. Tell us about the siding on that wall, and we'll go over how that side comes off when we look at the job. If the wood behind the ledger turns out to be rotten, repairing the house side is a job for a carpenter, not us.

Freestanding and ground-level decks are simpler. Nothing ties into the house, so they come apart faster.

Old deck lumber and the county drop-off

York County's Small Load Drop-Off does take lumber, pressure-treated included, but only in pieces 6 feet or less. That means cutting down every joist and board before you load your truck.[1]

Footings are a different story. Concrete isn't accepted at the Small Load Drop-Off at all, so those posts set in concrete need somewhere else to go.[1]

Leaving the pile at the curb usually isn't an option either. One township hauler's rules state that no construction debris will be collected curbside.[2]

Who calls us about an old deck

Usually it's one of three people. A homeowner in Red Lion or Dallastown who's finally replacing the deck the last owner built. Somebody getting a house ready to sell, where a home inspector flagged a soft stair and a loose railing. Or a landlord who'd rather have a plain backyard than a liability hanging off the back door.

If a builder is putting up the new deck, we can take the old one out ahead of them so their crew starts on a clean site. Just give us their timeline and we'll work around it.
