Much of the region's housing is rented. In York city, 56.3% of occupied homes are renter-occupied. In Harrisburg it's 63.4%, and in Lancaster city 51.4%.[1][2][3]
The housing stock is old and mostly attached. York city's median home was built in 1941, and only 22.1% of its housing units are single detached houses, so expect shared walls, narrow stairwells and tight basement steps on a lot of turnovers.[1]
Two things show up in vacated properties that can't simply go out with the trash.
What happens to a former occupant's belongings is decided by the owner, the lender, the management company or their attorney, not by the cleanout crew. Hand us the written instructions for what gets held, what gets set aside and what goes, and we'll work to them.
If there's a refrigerator with food still in it, paint and chemicals in the basement, or anything else that looks hazardous, point it out on the walkthrough. Better to plan for it than to discover it with the truck half loaded.
