Owner-operated. William is personally on every job from start to finish.

A mattress isn’t heavy so much as uncooperative. It flops, it snags on the banister, and it never bends the way you need it to on a landing. That’s why so many end up leaning against a wall in the spare room for a year. Our mattress removal is simple: we come up to the bedroom, pull the mattress and box spring, take the frame and headboard too if they’re going, and carry it all out to the truck. You get the price before we touch the bed, and we sweep up whatever was living under it.

How the job goes

  1. Step 1
Tell us what’s in the bed

Mattress only, or box spring, frame and headboard too? A quick photo and the size (twin through king) is plenty for a price.

  2. Step 2
    Strip it before we arrive

Pull the sheets, mattress pad and pillows you’re keeping. Anything left on the bed rides along.

  3. Step 3
    Price, then out it goes

William confirms the price. We break down the frame and carry each piece out, mattress first.

  4. Step 4
    Sweep and haul

We sweep the spot where the bed stood, then the mattress is either set aside for donation or heads to disposal.

Mattress disposal in York County: where it ends up

In York County, a mattress that gets thrown out ends up at the Resource Recovery Center on Blackbridge Road in Manchester Township. YCSWA lists mattresses with furniture under small loads of waste, which go into the plant and get processed into electricity.[1][2]

The metal part of a bed is a different story. YCSWA sends metal items dropped off by residents, bed frames included, to a local scrap yard rather than the burn plant.[2]

Over in Lancaster County, LCSWMA lists mattresses among the bulky items residents commonly bring to its facilities, with disposal rates applying.[3][4]

Box spring removal, frames and the rest of the bed

Box springs are the awkward cousin. A mattress will fold a little on a tight turn; a box spring won’t bend at all, so it goes down the stairs flat and slow. A split king foundation is two pieces, which actually makes the carry easier.

Frames come apart first. Metal rails unbolt, wooden beds come apart at the headboard and footboard, and bunk beds get taken down level by level before anything leaves the room.

Waterbeds are the exception that needs prep. Drain the bladder completely before we come, because we don’t haul liquids. Once it’s empty, the bladder, frame and heater come out like any other bed.

Can a used mattress be donated?

Sometimes. If a mattress is clean, intact and still reusable, it can go to a donation drop-off like any other good piece. If it’s sagging, stained or torn, it goes for disposal at a licensed transfer station. We’ll give you a straight answer when we see it.
