Local & Owner-Operated
Owner-operated. William is personally on every job from start to finish.

Every month a storage unit full of things you don't want costs you rent. A storage unit cleanout ends that. Roll up the door with us and tell us what's coming home with you. We load the rest, from furniture and mattresses to boxes and totes, take usable pieces to donation drop-offs, haul everything else away, and sweep the floor so you can turn the unit in. William gives you the price from photos and confirms it before we lift anything. Inherited a unit you've never seen inside? That's fine too.

Storage unit packed with leather couches and household items pre-cleanout — The Junk Lord, York County PA

What's Included

  • Price from photos of the open unit, confirmed before we start
  • Two-person crew loading everything: boxes, totes, furniture, loose items
  • Your keep pile set aside before anything gets loaded
  • Donation drop-offs for usable furniture and household goods
  • Single items through multiple truck loads
  • Sweep-out of the empty unit

What We Take

  • Furniture from a downsized home
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Boxes of clothes, books and dishes
  • Holiday decorations
  • Tools and yard gear
  • Exercise equipment
  • Old TVs, stereos and computers
  • A relative's belongings you've inherited

How the job goes

  1. Step 1
    Photos from the doorway

Open the unit and take a few photos straight in, plus one of the unit number. Text them to William with the facility's address.

  2. Step 2
    Check with the facility office

Ask about access hours, gate codes, and whether a truck can pull up to your door. Some facilities want notice before a cleanout.

  3. Step 3
    Sort at the door

On the day, we pull things out and you call keep, donate or haul as they come out. Keepers go straight to your vehicle.

  4. Step 4
    Load, haul, sweep

We load everything else, sweep the floor, and you lock up and turn the unit in.

When the unit isn't yours

Often the person clearing a storage unit isn't the one who rented it. It might have been a parent who downsized, a sibling who moved away, a relative who passed. You may be seeing what's inside for the first time, and that's a lot to take in standing in a hallway of roll-up doors.

  • Open boxes before they're loaded. Paperwork and photos end up in the strangest places.
  • Pull out dresser and desk drawers. They're a favorite hiding spot for envelopes and jewelry.
  • Bring a vehicle big enough for what you plan to keep, since it leaves with you.
  • Ask the facility what paperwork it needs from you to access or close out the unit.

Where a unit's worth of boxes and furniture ends up

Storage units are mostly cardboard and furniture, and York County has a place for each. If you're hauling some of it yourself, here's the lay of the land.

  • Corrugated cardboard can go to YCSWA's Recycling Drop-Off Center on Blackthorne Court in York, which charges no fee and also has a bin for clothing and shoes.[1]
  • Furniture and mattresses count as small loads of waste at the county's Small Load Drop-Off. That waste goes into the Resource Recovery Center and is turned into electricity.[2]
  • Metal pieces like bed frames and bookshelves go from the Small Load Drop-Off to a local scrap yard.[2]
  • Taking a load to a Lancaster County facility? LCSWMA requires every open load to be tarped and secured, and a penalty applies if it isn't.[3]

“William and team did an amazing job clearing out my parents house and garage. They were polite, efficient and professional. I would never have been able to prep for the sale of the house without Junk Lords help. Highly recommend.”
